Hawaii Lei

Mark Twain visited Hawaii in the 1860s... he said of the islands, "No other land could so longingly and beseechingly haunt my sleeping and waking, through half a lifetime, as Hawaii has done. Other things leave me, but it abides. "

Plan a Fun Time Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay

(This is page 2) (Return to Page 1)

What to bring to Hanauma bay

At a recent visit to the bay, I observed items that people brought. You probably don’t want all of these items, but you can use this as a checklist to consider what to bring. You can choose to sit on the beach or on a grassy area near the beach. There is some shade in the grassy area, but not on the beach (bring your own shade.)
    • Cooler (on rollers) to keep items cool
    • Bottled Water
    • Snacks/ lunch (ice cream in a cooler – I’d use hot ice to keep it cold)
    • Fruit
    • Acai Bowl (If you don’t know what this is – it’s a great lunch or snack that you can purchase at many food outlets around the island – makes a perfect beach snack or lunch. A sampling of where to get them is: Blue Hawaii LifeStyle, Lanikai Juice, Jewel or Juice, Vita Juice, Island Vintage Coffee, Diamond Head Cove Health Bar, etc)
    • Tent or umbrella – Some people do have the four-poster gazebo-like tents set up on the beach or grass.
    • Folding chairs (remember that you must carry them down and back up.)
    • Bring your own snorkel or be prepared to rent
    • Towel
    • Underwater camera
    • Sunglasses
    • Flip flops (sandals) or water shoes
    • Sunscreen
    • Boogie board or floats
    • Hat
    • Change of clothes
    • Plastic zip locks for food or to protect camera
    • Cash for shuttle, and cash or plastic for snacks, and snorkel equipment

Remember that you will have to carry these items down a considerable slope (or take the shuttle) -- and back up.

    Settnig Snorkeling Equipment

This is where you get snorkeling equipment. It is down at the beach. There are also restrooms and a water fountain nearby.
